2nd Hand
Prophet (2HP) is a rhythm inspired heavy rock band formed in August of
2008, in Leesburg, Virginia. 2HP’s band is composed of a three decade
age spread which brings in such influences such as System of the Down,
Frank Zappa, Foo Fighters, and Iron Maiden.
Although the band
and its members went through a number of re-configurations between 2005
and 2008, they finally achieved their current creative form when Reston
born David Montero, (guitarist and vocals), joined the then formed
group, consisting of Leesburg born Crystal Van Houtte, (Vocals, Guitar);
Falls Church born Roger Daugherty, (Guitar, Bass, Keyboards), and
Denver Colorado born Andrew Hunt, (Percussion, Drums).
2HP has been evolving at a creditable pace since they came together.
With a wide array of backgrounds each member of the current 2HP band
has performed for and with many known local favorites. Its lead singer,
Crystal’s first performance was for a Princess of Saudi Arabia, whom
then invited her to perform for her at the Saudi Embassy, consisting of
friends and diplomats. Although, she had sang lead for her church’s
junior mass choir for many years, Crystal had not yet considered
performing professionally until her reviews of that show. Roger
Daugherty travelled the world going to school in Spain and expanding his
musical talent in such bands as Code Blue, Contraband and Hooter.
Roger has worked on both sides of the recording industry, both in
producing music and recording it, giving a unique sound to recordings
that comes with years of experience. Andrew Hunt, with his 15 years of
ear trained drumming experience, has played with talented musicians such
as Mike
Fannin, Chris Barnhart and with the band “Crow’s Moon” until the
reforming of 2nd Hand Prophet in 2008. That leaves the newest and
youngest band member, David Montero. David, a prodigy of his own right,
starting playing in his teens and quickly was snatched up by the band
“Captain George and the Death Strikers”. After a short time of less
than two years, the band split, opening the way for the guitarist to
precede with plans to work on a project with his brother. "The
Explorers" as the band was called continued to work together preceding
his joining of 2HP.
After
gaining stability in the lineup and honing their skills on the local
bar and private party circuit, the band came to release their first
single "Nightmares”, an original written and performed by 2nd Hand
Prophet as a call to a need to be seen as human. The second single,
released the same day, contained an original composition "Be Lucid"
credited to bringing enlightenment to oneself, the way only rock can.
The
band is currently scheduled for a tour of gigs, private parties and
charity events. Upon completion of the tour, the band is scheduled to
continue writing and recording their next studio album a self-titled
album. . “2HP ……..If you crave the intensity” (
Tentatively titled)
The last live
show performed by 2HP was July 4, 2010, in which the band “Scream”
opened for 2nd Hand Prophet and was joined by Skeeter Thompson
(bassist), and was posted on www.youtube.com, under the band’s name.
